Resource sharing using a blog CoPo

Peter Enderby from Hunter Institute is investigating the creation of a network for collaboration and resource sharing for Tourism and Hotel Management teachers across Australia. I think it is an innovative idea as too often teachers are 'reinventing the wheel'.

Peter is looking at using a blog with an RSS feed as the means of communicating. I think the blog would need to have some kind of sorting tool to better enhance the retrieval of information. I cannot find one in blogger.com. Does anyone know if there is a way of filing information under topic headings rather than just archiving this information under monthly archiving? I would appreciate any feedback on this.

    Hi Kerry,

    Leigh here - the guy you are discussing images in Blogs with at Networking04.

    As a work around for this problem you might consider summarising your month's archived posts into one new post each month... sounds timeconsuming, but I think it would be a worthy exercise for keeping you familair withyour blog.

    Also, if you have a look at my blog, you might see the "join eGroup"
    I have managed to start up a Yahoo eGroup with the same name as my blog, and yahoo has a few tools to promote your eGroup. I just clicked "promote" in the management of the eGroup page, and copy pasted the html to the info about my blog.

    I am also trying out the "email" feature of the blog setup to have that eGroup mailed to everytime I publish to the blog.

    Sean here from NW2004.

    Unfortunatley, as good as Blogger is, it hasn't introduced categories for posts yet, which I think is what you are after.

    If you look around at the other free blog hosts (an ever-expanding list!) you might find one that has categories.

    If you ever feel game enough to install your own blog software on your own server (not that hard really) you will find programs such as Moveable Type and Wordpress are much more sophisticated tools than the basic free blog you get with Blogger.

    These more advanced tools have many more features including categories for posts and sophisticated bokkmark/link managers.
